I would describe it as counterproductive: prone to be trolled.

If a person disagrees they will usually quote you and say why, seems like what Raul said also true (go team raul)

Downvotes will only encourage trolling. As stated before, if an objection to a forum post exists and is popular then the objection will be upvoted, removing the need for a downvote option.
