I'm not sure what it is, but lately I've just not been able to understand the problem at all. My instructor makes us use codecademy.com to learn, but it seems so...overly-expecting? Maybe coding just isn't for me (I'm an artsy and relative guy, but some things on both ends of the spectrum I just can't quite seem to grasp), or maybe the website is shit, but is it bad that when they give me a question to answer, I can never seem to do it in under a half hour? I go through and learn how to do, say, if/else statements. Then, on the final lesson of the section, it will tell me to do something that sounds absurdly simple to me. I do it with pride, knowing it must be correct according to what I've been taught, yet it will tell me I'm wrong. Then, when I go into the Q&A forum, I see these crazy codes that I've never even seen before. Is THAT what I'm thought to know from this website? If so, then I didn't get the memo, or maybe the website is just utterly horrible for learning. Anybody have any idea what I should do? Chapter 2 is due at midnight on Friday, and I fear I won't be able to complete it by then like this. Thanks.

I saw codecademy, and honestly, I think it's a good idea, but they're applying it in a wrong way. And to be honest, Java isn't the greatest of languages. I don't think it's just you, because I went on that website and didn't really feel like I learned anything about coding.

I seem to have trouble learning things that involve sequences/numbers/variables/letters etc, like Language, Mathematics, Coding etc., maybe this could be a factor? Is there a name for a condition for something like this? Lately I've felt like my trouble learning these things has gone away, but today I felt it again with Codecademy. Maybe I only feel this way when I'm in a certain mood (angry, for instance)? How would one suppress these things and continue learning?

Javascript happens to be one of the most used script types for website coding. The best way that I would think to learn it is to use your html editor. Find out what this does, and what that does. I learned how to understand coding in a week this way so its not very hard.

I've used Codecademy. I'll echo the statements of an article I read about it online (CBA finding it so I'll just paraphrase):

Codecademy is hailed as a revolutionary method of learning how to program... it is said that will make everyone a programmer with its easy-to-follow practical tutorials. The problem is that the people that say that are programmers already! It hardly introduces you to any concepts of programming and is far too practical from the go for its own good. However, for experienced programmers who can understand The C Programming Language and other such books for geniuses in one sitting, Codecademy is ideal.

And now my addendum: relatively few web developers actually learn JavaScript in great depth... the majority actually rely on frameworks like the ridiculously popular jQuery, which most people known for the UI for drop-down effects and stuff but is actually much more advanced than that and used just about everywhere. Others write in transcompilers (though this term is inaccurate as JS is not compiled) like the up-and-coming CoffeeScript language that claims a 1/3 reduce in code. The popular Django and other such software can also create JS interfaces.

Java is completely different from JavaScript. Completely.

Though yeah, you're right, Codecademy should be used as a supplement after you're fairly well-versed in the language. A lot of books give you exercises but I think Codecademy's exercises, being somewhat easier, are better for learning how to use a given language.

Java and javascript are 2 different languages.

they have just one thing in commen. their origin. both languages origin from the c family. so they have a similar syntax.

java is an object oriented language, where you usually build desktop apps, serverside code,....
javascript is based on the prototyp model. you can build script withing the browser or programm the serverside code on websites.

i dont want to go into too much details therefore i will stop now
